What began as a personal gesture of comfort for our Grammie became the heart of Glo Comfort Co.

Our Why

Our Grammie was diagnosed with lymphoma in her thirties and has faced it, on and off, for over forty years. A couple of years ago, she suffered a serious relapse and spent months in the hospital prior to being transferred to the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. During that time, our family did not leave her side, bringing Grammie comforts from home to make her stay more pleasant. At the same time, we noticed something heartbreaking: many patients go days or weeks without basic comfort items simply because they don't have family nearby or visiting isn't possible.

Watching our Grammie’s journey, inspired Cayla to begin studying chemotherapy side effects and building relationships with cancer centre care teams, learning directly from staff and patients what can bring extra comfort during treatment.

In 2024, deeply moved by these experiences, for a high school personal project Cayla developed her first custom comfort kits - which became the spark for founding Glo Comfort Co., a non-profit dedicated to Giving Light & Optimism to cancer patients.

The woman on the right has dark blonde or light brown hair tied back, with freckles, and is also smiling, wearing a white sleeveless top.
